So, after a ridiculously busy couple of months, and several chaotic events, I actually feel like maybe I have the time to write. I lost interest in the other story {sorry lovelies} but I'm going to start on a new one I know I can keep going. I'll probably update every week, so I won't get overwhelmed. Love, Christine *** Chapter One :Take My Hand, We'll Make It "Let's make like a baby and HEAD OUT!" bellowed Zeke at the hodge podge group of detasslers. The inexperianced teens fumbled their way into the corn field, trying their best to spot corn tassles, and remove them. Kyra rushed through, ignoring the corn rash on her arms, the giant bugs clinging to corn stalks, and the nasty remarks made by the hicks in the field. Her only focus was finding tassles, throwing them on the ground, and getting paid. A steadily growing sound nagged at the corner of her mind. Was she hearing... a guitar solo? She looked around and saw that one of the boys in her crew seemed to have his ipod in his hat, and was listening Metallica. She turned around and grinned at the boy. A crooked smile crossed his face. "I like your music," Kyra said, wondering to herself if maybe this would be one kid she could actually relate to. "Yeah, it's about the only thing that keeps me sane around all these hicks" said the boy with a chuckle. A smile crept on Kyra's face. She could actually sense a soul unmarred by chewing tobacco inside this kid. She took her eyes off the ground for a moment, and promptley fell over something. "Ugh! What the hell!" yelled Kyra in exasperation. She didn't enjoy being covered in mud. She looked at what she tripped on. It was a boy dressed in camo, crouched on the ground, with a devillish grin on his face. "Wow AJ. You would" she said, trying to clean herself off. She looked up to see the Metallica boy laughing hysterically down at her. "How can you laugh at me. You don't even know me. I don't even know your name." Kyra fumed, glaring at the boy. She knew it wasn't his fault, but she couldn't help but be pissed. "The names Mitch, and well, I would expect you to laugh at me too if I fell in the mud. Let me help you up" He said, holding his hand out to her.She reluctantly took the help, and stood up. He squeezed her hand and with a smile said "You better get back to work or Bob's gonna slice your paycheck in half" She rolled her eyes and went back to walking through the corn field. This time, she wouldn't let herself be distracted. |
